After determining that we are going to sell your company, we will put together a valuation and a listing price. We'll also have to put together documents that describe the company processes at length. These documents along with financials help the buyers understand what they are getting into with purchasing your business. Once we list your business for sale on a number of websites and databases, we will also reach out to our list of buyers and investors and will reach out to local businesses potentially interested in expanding their business. Once we receive an offer that is acceptable, the process of due diligence to close can take anywhere from 2 months to 8 months. If the buyer does not need a loan, the process will be shorter than if they do need a loan. Business sellers should typically expect to sell within 6-12 months, again depending on a few variables in the process.

How does Fortitude get paid for representing me as a business broker?

Unlike most brokers, we do not believe in getting paid for listing, but only for closings. We only get paid if we can find a buyer and bring the transaction to a close. Most brokers will take a retainer fee or charge clients on an hourly basis, before the transaction is even closed. We don't do that. Our compensation comes in the form of a commission on the final sales price and is taken at closing(similar to a real estate transaction). Our commission percentage is based on a double Lehman scale and will adjust based on the size of the closing price. An internet search about business broker fees will give you an idea of what fair market price is. We don't intend to be more than is typical.
